General Physio - What does it involve?

Full details of your condition and how it affects your daily life will be noted and the joint and surrounding structures examined. Physiotherapists can diagnose the underlying problem and advise you on the best course of action. Most people do not need lengthy courses of treatment.

One of the main aims of physiotherapy is to show you how to help yourself. Many conditions can significantly improve in 4 or 5 treatment sessions. Specific treatment aims to:
  • Reduce pain - this can be achieved using different techniques. Sometimes electrotherapy treatments such as ultrasound interferential or TNS can help. Some people respond very well to acupuncture or acupressure techniques
  • Increase mobility - Hands on manipulation, mobilisation or massage techniques help to improve joint movement
  • Strengthen and rehabilitate - To get the maximum benefit from treatment and reduce the risk of problems returning you need to be prepared to help yourself. Specific graded exercise routines are vital part of treatment programmes.
